So yesterday I was struggling to put sentences together while I wrote about being a weary mama. And a couple hours later I realized I forgot to write the second half of the post. So here it is. This is the “how” part.
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.Isaiah 40:28-31
God. God is the answer. He does not grow weary. He never sleeps. He’s not like the idols that you have to wake up by sounding a gong before you can make your request. And he is the one who gives us strength for the good works he has lined up for us each day.
We wait on the Lord. We fix our eyes on him as we laugh about our three year old over the same book we read four times already today. We look to him and thank him for the good work that’s falling out of the laundry basket. Strength comes from God.
But “not growing weary of doing good” doesn’t always feel like there’s a super natural power behind it. Some times it feels like putting the sugar bowl in the microwave instead of the coffee you meant to heat up. It feels like plodding. That’s ok. It doesn’t have to feel like God to know he’s working in you. He is. He promised. Keep going. He is working through our tired bodies. He is being faithful. He isn’t just waving a wand and tidying up our homes. He is actually making us more like his Son. He is make us people who serve when it’s anything but convenient. He gives us strength for that kind of thing.
