Baby Waiting

I’m in the home stretch of baby waiting these days. Any chores that require bending over aren’t getting done and very few others are either now that I think of it. But slowly we’ve been getting tiny clothes washed up and a supply of diapers ready. I even finished up a few knitting projects that I had hoped to have ready for her. My favorite is this little sweater for her to wear home from the hospital. I didn’t do one of the sleeves quite right, but I don’t think she’ll notice!

But all this waiting and wondering if it will be like last time or the first time or completely different this time around has made me think about the other waiting we’re always doing, waiting for Jesus.

The wars and the rumors of wars, he said, are like labor pains. They begin and will increase and the end could come really soon. Or, it could still be a ways off. But we’re supposed to be ready. Have your bags packed for the hospital.

And in the meantime, life keeps going. I have other kids who need fed and a dishwasher that needs loaded (right now in fact). But I don’t forget while I’m working that I’m waiting too. It’s easy to remember with the baby; I forget too often that I’m waiting for Jesus.
