trillia-picTrillia Newbell is the editor of Karis: One God, One Gospel, All Grace, a new channel for women at the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. Her vision for this new resource for women is beautiful.

1. Tell me about the first time you encountered the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW).

I actually don’t remember the first time I encountered CBMW. I remember reading parts of Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood by John Piper and Wayne Grudem and What’s the Difference by John Piper. At the time, I didn’t know that they were affiliated with CBMW. I think I gradually became familiar with the organization as I continued to read more about complementarianism.

[Complementarianism is “the biblically derived view that men and women are complementary, possessing equal dignity and worth as the image of God, and called to different roles that each glorify him.” Read more here.]

2. How have the truths taught through CBMW made a difference in your life?

I think what’s been good about the organization for me is simply having a resource. I’ve read the Scriptures and continue to come to the same conclusions regarding interpretation. CBMW has helped confirm what I believe the Lord has revealed to me.

3. Who would benefit from the new women’s channel at CBMW?

Anyone! Though we are a site that is dedicated to a complementarian view of Scripture, Karis isn’t going to give a defense of our view in every post. :) [Read more about the approach of presenting complimentarianism lived out rather than defined here.] In other words, we are going to be addressing issues that relate to all women in various stages of life from a Christian worldview. I think many will find it beneficial.

4. Can you tell us about the name for the new site, Karis. What does it mean and why did you choose it?

Karis is Greek for grace. We want to be a site that is known for and marked by grace. You can read all about the name and the meaning here: Welcome to Karis

5. What is the overarching vision of the channel?

The Women’s Channel doesn’t have an official mission statement, but perhaps we should create one. The overarching vision of the channel would be the same as CBMW’s mission which states: The mission of The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood is to set forth the teachings of the Bible about the complementary differences between men and women, created equally in the image of God, because these teachings are essential for obedience to Scripture and for the health of the family and the church.

I am convinced that the teachings of the Bible when applied to normal, everyday life, will affect and encourage all women reading.

[To learn more about The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood] I would highly encourage people to visit the site at cbmw.org You’ll find all of our resources and information you’ll ever need. The best place to start would be our “About” page.

6. What kind of articles and/or resources can we look for on the channel?

We will be doing devotionals, special series, perspective pieces, and anything on being a single woman, wife, and mother. We will also have Titus 2 Tuesday’s where we interview women of the faith in various seasons, typically they will be older.

[For the first Titus 2 Tuesday post, meet Maria Moore!]

7. Tell me about someone who influenced you to become the editor of the new women’s channel at CBMW.

If you are asking who encouraged me to become the editor of the channel I’d have to say Owen Strachan. Owen is the Executive Director and he is passionate about the organization. When he asked me to consider editing for him I was quite eager. I knew this would be a challenge but I also knew that Owen’s vision for the ministry and dedication would be something I’d like to support. Owen is very gracious and has been quite encouraging to me through this process.

8. Why are you passionate about your role?

I am passionate about the role mostly because I am passionate about the Lord. I am thankful to get to minister to others through writing. I have wonderful contributors who are all so eager to serve. It’s been a real joy to work with these women. Karis is new and fresh and frankly, the Lord could do anything. I’m excited to be a part of this relaunch of CBMW!

9. How can we pray for you personally and CBMW as this new resource launches?

What a wonderful and kind question. Please pray for wisdom. I’d love prayer for direction as we plan articles and series. You can also pray for the readers. Pray God brings those who might need encouragement or confirmation. I’d love for the readers to come and be overwhelmed by the grace of God, the gospel, and hope. We have a lot of fun things planned.

10. Is there anything else you want people to know about CBMW?

There are several channels on the site. We have the men’s channel, public square, and a space for book reviews. There are loads of resources as well. The Journal will be a highlight as it always has been.
